Police Arraign Six Suspects For Child Theft In Rivers
Police in Rivers State
says in will charge six suspects arrested for child stealing to court in the state.
The suspects are Nne Jaju, 22 Yenubari Sergent, 20, Wisdom Stephen Nkechi Anyanwu, 45, Francisca C. Chukwu, 36, and Joy Uzoechi.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Chris Ezike disclosed this to journalists in Port Harcourt adding that all arrangements have been concluded to arraign all the suspects involved in the crime before a Port Harcourt chief magistrate court for prosecution.
He disclosed that the suspects confessed to have conspired and sneaked through a broken window into the room of the parents of a 7 month old baby girl in the night at Mile 2, Diobu, in Port Harcourt and stole the child.
The state police boss averred that the baby was sold at the cost of N200,000.00 to one Nkechi Anyanwu from Nekede in Imo State adding all those involved in the crime have been arrested and made useful statements.
He opined that the child’s mother, Mrs. Rose Friday reported to the Mile I Police Station about the child’s abduction from their residence on 20/7/15 noting that it was shameful that youths are involved in the stealing of babies and selling them for peanuts.
“These incidents, as sad as they are, remind us that we must continue to work towards ensuring public order and safety. Our youths seem to be missing the honourable path of pursuing decent approaches to success. Their involvement in crime at various levels portend danger to our development as a nation.
We must therefore work together to stamp out crime in our neigbourhoods”.
