The Technical Director,
Para-athletics Federation of Nigeria (PFN), has urged parents and guardians of physically-challenged persons to expose them to sports.
Kasumu told newsmen in Lagos that there were oppunities for special athletes in sports, noting that there were different sports where their talents could be identifies for stardom.
“I encourage most of the parents of disabled children to bring them out so that they can improve on their disabilities because keeping them at home will not improve them.
I can point to some physically-challenged persons that have cerebral palsy, in bring out their first video, when they first joined athletics, and now, it’s a lot of improvement.
“Parents should not see their special children as an embarrassment and then keep them indoors. There are different sports that they can participate in,” he said.
Kasumu noted that in sports, there is no discrimination whatsoever and that it even improves disability.
“There is no discrimination in Sports, whether you are able or physically-challenged. They should expose them to sports, so that they can improve and showcase themselves, as well as their families,” he said.
Kasumu, therefore, appealed that special athletes should be allowed out of their shells, for people to see the talents in them, saying that a lot of them have been able to do the country proud, particularly in sports.
