The national Under – 23 football team has called on Port Harcourt Football fans and beyond to troop out in their numbers to massively support them as they build up for and play their Congolese counterparts in the crucial qualifying first leg match of the football event of Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Media Officer of the team, Timi Ebikagboro speaking with Tidesports yesterday said that they need the support and prayers of Nigerians, especially, Port Harcourt residents to not only secure victory but to win big in order to make the return leg a formality.
The Dream Team V1 arrived Port Harcourt on Monday and is focused on the game scheduled for Adokiye Amiesimaka Sports Complex at the Greater Port Harcourt area on the 19th of this month.
Ebikagboro described Rivers people and Governor Nyesom Wike as sports loving people and that the Governor has demonstrated his love and commitment to sports by accepting to host the Dream team even when other states were pulling out.
According to him, the only way to show appreciation to the state and make it their home is to work hard to win convincingly and secure the  ticket to Rio.
He believes that the fans have a role to play to motivate the team to deliver.
“We expect Port Harcourt fans to pray for the team, come and cheer the team to victory on match day.
This we believe will boost the morale of the players and propel them to go all out for victory, he said.
The team, he assured, has settled and would give a good account of themselves on match day.
