As the controversy surrounding the leadership of the 22 Local Government Councils in Rivers State continues to unfold, the State Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezeike said he has not received any Court Order from the National Industrial Court (NIC) in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State mandating him to reinstate the local government Chairmen that were removed from office by a Federal High Court judgement which nullified their election.
The State Commissioner of Police made this explanation while addressing journalists at the Police Headquarters, in Port Harcourt after the inauguration of the Police Traffic Decongestion Committee (TDC), yesterday.
Ezike said that the state Police command would act accordingly if it gets a superior directive on the matter in a way of court orders and rulings, adding that the Police the moment were yet to receive any orders mandating them to do so.
He told journalists that when the news of such order from the National Industrial Court sitting in Bayelsa State, was heard in radio, he sought for a copy of the said order but did not see where the court ordered the police to restore the 22 Council Chairmen into office.
“When we heard of the court ruling Monday from the National Industrial Courts, I sought for a copy of the order, and I did not see where in the entire procedure that the court had ordered me to reinstate the 22 Council Chairmen.
