Nigeria To Take 13 Boxers To AAG
Only 13 of the 30 boxers already in camp ahead of the 11th All Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville from Sept. 4 to September 19 would be selected for the Games.
The Assistant Coach of the Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF), Adura Olalehin made the disclosure in an interview withnewsmen in Lagos.
Olalehin said that the 13 boxers to be selected would be 10 males and three females.
He said that the unselected boxers would remain in camp for the World Championships, the Commonwealth Games and the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
The coach commended the NBF President Lt.-Gen Kenneth Minimah for the construction and furnishing of the boxers’ hostel close to the gym.
He said that training facilities were also provided for training of boxers at the gym.
Olalehin boasted that with facilities at the gym and building of the hostel, Nigeria should expect a lot of medals at the Games.
“The Kenneth Minimah Boxing Hostel is purposely built to shelter boxers and officials of the NBF.
“This building you see today was abandoned for good 26 years. But we thank God that Lt. Gen. Kenneth Minimah was able to bring this dream to reality.
“The hostel is to shelter our boxers and officials. The hostel has about 40 rooms which are conducive for living.
“We have plasma television in all the rooms, including water dispenser, fridge, air-conditioners, and kitchen utensils while the kitchen is well-stocked.”
