NFF Calls Off Chartered Flight For U-23 Dream Team VI

Cash-strapped Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has called off a plan for a chartered flight to ferry the country’s team to a crucial CAF U-23 Championship qualifier in Congo this weekend.
Nigeria won the first leg in Port Harcourt 2-1 and faces a daunting task in the return leg in Pointe Noire on Sunday.
NFF President Amaju Pinnick told newsmen that  the Dream Team VI will now get to Congo on a regular flight.
“We had plans for a chartered flight, but not in the sense of us paying for the plane. For example, if we were to spend $60,000 to airlift the team normally, we were expecting that our friends in the aviation industry would help us by asking us to pay same amount for the entire team,” Pinnick explained.
“You know we are in difficult times when it comes to finances. But we are doing everything possible to ensure that the team arrives early enough in Congo for the game.
“We are leaving nothing to chance. Even without the chartered flight we would make sure the team lacked nothing. and are in the best shape going into the game in Congo.”
The overall winners of this match will advance to the CAF U23 Championship in Senegal, which will be the qualifying tournament for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
