…Mixed Reactions Trail Nigeria, Congo Match
Nigeria soccer fans have
expressed mixed feelings over the outcome of the 2016 U-23 Olympic Qualifier match between Nigeria and Congo, played at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt on Sunday.
The match which was the first leg of the qualifier ended in a 2-1 victory in favour of Nigeria.
A cross section of the fans who spoke to Tidesports soon after the encounter said they were impressed with the performance of the Dream Team despite the Nigerian lads missing so many scoring chances, while others said the Sampson Siasia lads should go back to the drawing board and put certain things in order, if they want to scale through the second leg of the match scheduled to hold in Congo in a fortnight.
Aveterann Sports writer, Baridon Sika said, “it is a nice game as the victory has given Nigeria the advantage and I am sure they can go there and perform better”.
Sika however expressed dismay over the numerous chances frittered away by the Nigerians and urged coach Siasia to plug the loop holes before the return leg.
Another fan, Jerry Atemie said, “The boys played well but luck was not on their side. I am sure they will beat the Congolese there or at least equalise. Their problems have been lack of finishing and what caused the Congolese to score their only goal was that the players left the defence in search for more goals before the unfortunate thing happened. They played well”.
Femi Olorunshola on his part has this to say, “Siasia is to do a lot of job on the boys. Their finishing is poor and they lack calmness in the box so more technical work should be done on the team”.
Solomon Inuen in his own view said “The Nigerian team should have scored at least six goals because they played the ball with confidence and made several attempts but the goals refused to come”.
Inuen however called on the authorities to keep the boys intact as they have a bright future.
