A non-governmental organisation, Civil Society Oragnisation in Malaria Control and Immunisation (ACOMIN) has said that over 3 million deaths are prevented  through immunisation.
The South-South Programme Officer and Cross River State Acting Coodinator of the organisation, Dr Etime Duke, revealed this at a community sensitisation meeting where over 60 pregnant women, women of child- bearing age (WCBA) and nursing mothers were sensitised on immunisation as part of activities to mark the world immunisation week in the state.
Dr Etime Duke lamented that most mothers were not aware of the importance of immunisation on the health of their children stating however that the organisation in collaboration with the Global Alliance for Vaccine and Immunisation (GAVI), has over the years stream lined programmes and policies that would help children get immunized.
Secretary of ACOMIN in the state, Mr Effiong Effiong Udobong in his remarks explained that immunization was a proven tool for controlling and eliminating life-threatening infectious diseases and is estimated to avert between two and three million deaths each year.
