The Ijaw Youth Coun
cil (IYC), has condemned in its entirety the murder of one of its staff, Comrade Sylvanus Otueneh by unknown gun men.
Comrade Sylvanus Otueneh was a staff attached to the national secretary of IYC, Comrade Bristol  Emmanuel Alagbariya before he was  killed by unidentified assassins in his private residence in Port Harcourt last weekend.
A statement issued by the spokesperson of the group, Comrade Eric Omare, the IYC condemned the gruesome murder of Comrade Otueneh adding that the prime target  of the assassins  was on the National Secretary, Comrade  Bristol Emmanuel Alagbariya.
“We strongly believed that the National Secretary General, Comrade Bristol E. Alagbariya, was the prime target of the assassins and only went for the late Sylvanus when they could not find Comrade Alagbariya within the premises. This act is barbaric and most condemnable”
The group used the opportunity to commiserate with the family of the deceased for the huge loss and urged  the police authorities and other security operatives to properly investigate the matter with a view to bringing the perpetrators to justice.
The spokesperson of IYC urged members of the group especially those in the eastern zone to remain calm while the security   agencies carry out investigation and unravel those behind the dastardly act.
He, however, stated that the incident occurred at the private residence of the national secretary  in Port Harcourt and not at the IYC Secretariat in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State as wrongly reported.
