IGSDA Discovers 50 Football Talents In Rivers South-East

Grassroots Sports Development Association IGSDA has unearthed 50 grassroots football talents in the Rivers South-East Senatorial district of Rivers State.         This was disclosed by the president of the association, Prince Miebi Ogunu after an internal screening exercise organised by the association in Bori.
According to the president, the association achieved another landmark through the exercise which involved over 3,000 youngsters ranging between 16-21 years of age drawn from the seven local government areas that make up the senatorial district .
Ogunu said that the exercise which was initiated by him to screen all players being recommended by the association’s training centre coaches and packaged by the technical committee headed by Coach Ralph Akunna was a huge success.
Now, he said that the discovered talents have the potentials to fit into the drop clubs in the state, Sharks, Dolphins, Go-Round FC and others, but would be closely groomed and monitored until they join any of the clubs.
Tidesports gathered that players attended the screening exercise from Tai, Eleme, Oyigbo, Gokana, Khana, Andoni and Opobo/Nkoro local government areas.
Head o f the technical Committee, Coach Akunna later disclosed that screening exercises would be held next month for other sports, especially, tracks field events, basketball, swimming, boxing, wrestling, table tennis and others in furtherance of the associations bid to produce athletes from the grassroots for local, state, national and international competitions.
Meanwhile, Coaches at the event applauded the exercise describing the initiative as a positive move towards revolutionizing sports development and talent discovery in Nigeria.
