Governor Dr. Ipalibo Harry Banigo has charged the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to step up sensitisation campaign on the danger of cult related vices among youths in the state.
The Deputy Governor, gave the charge when the state Director of the National Orientation Agency, Mr. Oliver Wolugbom, paid her a courtesy call in Government House, Port Harcourt.
Dr. Banigo who expressed concern over the destructive influence of cultism and homosexualism among youths attributed it to wrong orientation from peer groups, mentors and some parents.
She noted that as Treasure Base of the nation, Rivers youths must be repositioned to harness their full potentials and the enormous natural opportunities in the state, adding that with the right information and attitudinal change, the future of our youths would be secured.
“We have a vision to pass on to our youths. As the Treasure Base of the nation, we must prepare our future leaders, if not, we have no future,” she noted.
The Deputy Governor expressed readiness of the state government to partner relevant Agencies in the state to bring back proper value system which she said is the foundation for peace and progress.
Dr. Banigo enjoined the NOA Director to target school children in his re-orientation campaign in line with the New Rivers Vision of Governor Nyesom Wike.
“We are ready to partner with you, to preserve the destiny of our youths, Government is all about how we can mould character through re-orientation. Our youths have to imbibe the right attitude so that they can increase their altitude.” She asserted.
She thanked the Agency for the role played in sensitising the public during the tragic incident of the local gin popularly called “ogogoro” or “kaikai” which claimed lives of consumers in the state.
