The Delta  State Com
mand of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), has promised to take the necessary measures to stem the increasing menace of articulated vehicles on the highways.
The Sector Commander, Mr Rindom Kumven, told our correspondent in Asaba, last Saturday, that the commission was committed to sanitising all the highways across the state.
Kumven said that the operation carried out recently on Asaba-Benin Expressway recorded huge  success.
He said six articulated vehicle drivers were arrested and fined for various offences ranging from driving without driver’s licences, expired licence, excessive smoke emission, worn-out tyres , among others.
He said that the operation was carried out because of the high rate of road crashes involving articulated vehicles across the state.
The sector commander said, “this had become worrisome to the commission because of the high rate of loss of lives and property as a result of accidents caused by these vehicles” .
He said the major challenge faced during the operation was the process of tracking the drivers down, noting that some refused to stop and were driving under the influence of drugs.
Kumven further said that some of the vehicles were overloaded, some had hydraulic brake system failure, while others evaded the officers and men of the commission.
He advised drivers to comply with road safety rules in their own interests, warning that any driver caught would face the law.
