Estate Agent Docked Over N2.6m Fraud
A 33-year-old Estate
Agent, Kehinde Fatunse, last Tuesday appeared before an Abeokuta Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defrauding 25 accommodation seekers of N2.6million.
The Prosecutor, Insp Sunday Eigbejiale, told the court that the accused committed the offences between March and May 2015 at Oke-Sokori, Abeokuta.
He said that the accused obtained N2.6million from 25 persons under the pretence of renting a one room self-contained apartment to them.
“Your worship, the accused has been defrauding innocent accommodation seekers by taking them to the same apartment for rent.
“He has collected money from 25 people to rent them the one-bedroom apartment.
“When police received series of reports about the accused’s activities, it contacted the bank where he tells his victims to pay in the money,” he said.
Eigbejiale said that Fatunse was apprehended on a tip-off when he went to withdraw some money from the bank.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 390 (9) and 383 of the Criminal Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
The accused, who is facing a 44-count charge of fraud and theft, pleaded not guilty.
In his submission, the defence counsel, Mr Femi Meyile applied for bail of the accused in liberal terms and assured the court that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Anthony Araba granted the accused bail in the sum of N500,000 with three sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case to Aug. 3 for hearing.
