The Manager of Dolphins FC of Port Harcourt, Stanley Eguma said yesterday  that his team would strive to improve on its present position in the league.
Dolphins are currently placed 17th on the league table with 14 points from 14 matches.
Eguma  said from Kano, where the team played a 2-2 drawn game with hosts, Kano Pillars in their last match, that with the payment of backlog of salaries by Governor Nyesom Wike, really motivated the team.
“The entire team is now motivated. We thank Governor Wike for redeeming his pledge to settle arrears of salaries owed members of Sharks, Dolphins and Rivers Angels teams.
“This propelled my team to achieve good results. Our match against Kano Pillars last Saturday, is a pointer to our determination to improve on our standing on the league table,’’ he said.
According to Eguma, Dolphins are determined to move out of the current precarious position on the table.
“I have spoken to my team and we are determined to move out of the danger zone that we have found ourselves,’’ he said.
Eguma also said that as the newly elected President of Nigerian Football Coaches Association, Rivers State chapter, he would initiate ideas that would grow the game in the state.
“I will work with colleagues to move the game forward. We need to impart knowledge on younger footballers and coaches.
“This is a call to duty and we must strive to meet the challenges ahead,’’ he vowed.
Dolphins are scheduled to clash with Elkaremi Warriors in a week 15 fixture and the team is looking towards another away points from the encournter, sister club, Sharks are also away to shooting Stars of Ibadan. After dropping points at home at the weekend, the Blue Angels would look to make amends against their former boss, Gbenga Ogunbote.
Meanwhile Rangers coach Imama Amapakabo has told African Football. com he hopes his team extend their fine run in the Nigeria League when they welcome champions, Kano Pillars to Enugu, today.
Amapakabo has led Rangers to three wins in four matches since he replaced former boss Kelechi Emeteole, who was asked to step aside by management of the Enugu club.
“It is just going to be another game (vs Pillars) and we shall give it all it deserves to wrest the maximum points at stake”, said the young coach.
“Pillars are a good side and we shall give them that respect but would ensure that the business is done on the pitch to keep hopes alive”.
However, despite ‘the Flying Antelopes’ remarkable run under his watch, Amapakabo insisted he will not make any promises as regards how Rangers will fare this season.
“I am not cut out for making promises and I don’t want to deviate from that now”, he maintained.
“All I know is that we have 72 points to fight for till the end of the league and we shall give our best in all the matches to grab as many points as possible to end in a respectable position at the end of the season”.
He said his understanding with the players was behind the club’s recent form.
‘There is no magic involved but just the simple belief of the players in my ability and I also trust their loyalty. With this perfect chemistry, I believe we will go places,” he explained.
