Court Sentences Man One Month Over Property Theft

Area Court in Abuja recently sentenced an 18-year-old man, Ibrahim Bala, to one month in prison for theft.
The convict, who has no fixed address pleaded guilty to the one-count charge against him.
The Judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, said the sentence would deter others from doing same but gave the convict an option to pay N5,000 as fine.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Simon Ibrahim, had told the court that one Christopher Obi of Daki-Biyu, Abuja, reported the matter at the Utako Police Station, Abuja, on June 11.He said that on that same date, the convict entered into the complainant’s shop at Jabi motor park, Abuja, and stole a property with unknown value and run away to unknown destination. Ibrahim said he was later arrested on the same day, noting that the offence was punishable under Section 288 of the Penal Code.
