Capacity Dev: RSG To Encourage Doctors, Health Workers

Rivers State Government
has said that it will encourage capacity development of doctors and other health professionals to enhance their competence in healthcare delivery in the state.
Deputy Governor of the State, Dr. Ipalibo Harry Banigo disclosed this when the leadership of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Rivers State Chapter paid her a courtesy call in her office in Government House, Port Harcourt.
Reiterating the State Government’s is commitment to manpower development, Banigo pointed out that it was against this background that the State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike-led Government plans to establish a Medical School in Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), to train more medical professionals to enable government achieve its vision for the health sector.
“In her words, “training and retraining of doctors should not be as difficult as it had been because the government will make adequate budgetary provision for that purpose.”
Speaking on the welfare of medical workers, the Deputy Governor said the government would follow due process and ensure that salaries and entitlements of workers are paid promptly to enable them perform optimally.
The Deputy Governor regretted however, that the Health Management Board had not perform up to its expectations, assured that the present administration would make all relevant agencies of Government functional.
Earlier, the State Chairman, Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Dr. Ibifuro Green, appealed to the government to grant the Hospital Management Board autonomy to enable them effectively manage the hospitals professionally.
Dr. Green further, assured the state government of the cooperation and support of doctors in the state, revealing that the association had concluded plans to honour the deputy governor with a meriteous award for her contributions to the health sector.
