Bricklayer In Court Over Property Destruction

A 34-year-old brick
layer, Musa Abdullahi, who allegedly destroyed items worth N20,000 in a beer parlour, was  yesterday docked in a Kuje Magistrates’ Court in the FCT.
Abdullahi, a resident of Kuje Low-cost Housing Estate, is standing trial on charges of criminal trespass and mischief.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Ocheche Samuel, alleged that the accused committed the offences on June 25 at Monkey Junction (a beer parlour) in Sauka Extension, Kuje.
Samuel said that the complainant, Mrs Nwuese Shuaibu, the owner of the beer parlor, lodged a complaint at the Kuje Police Station on the same day.
“The complainant reported that on that day, the accused, with others still at large, engaged in a fight and in the process destroyed some items worth thousands of naira in her beer parlour.
“Abdullahi had been drinking with his friends from morning till evening when a serious argument started among them.
“The complainant earlier told them to stop drinking and to leave, but they refused to listen.
“They started fighting and she alerted people, the accused was caught while the others escaped.
“They destroyed plastic chairs, cartons of empty bottles and glass cups all valued at N20,000,’’ Samuel said.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened the provisions of sections 342 and 326 of the Penal Code.
The Judge, Mr Azubike Okeagwu, granted the accused bail in the sum N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case till July 15 for trial.
