Bricklayer Escapes Lynching In PH

A bricklayer in Port
Harcourt, Samuel Giwa, narrowly escaped lynching by an angry mob for theft of 631 pieces of blocks that was said to be valued at #91,500.
The incident, which occurred on Saturday at the Rumuekini axis of Port Harcourt attracted the attention of people who were going for their various businesses.
The Tide gathered that the 29 years old bricklayer was engaged to be a manager in a block molding industry on a monthly salary, but was alleged to have used the opportunity to engage in illegal and corrupt activities.
Narrating her ordeal to the crowd that gathered, Chineye Oluchi said she employed the bricklayer as a manager and overseer in her block industry on a monthly salary.
She said on a certain day that she visited to check on the business, She discovered that the accused had stolen 631 pieces of nine inches blocks, and was said to have travelled to Abuja.
According to her, the said accused bricklayer had been at large and away from his duty post without her consent until the fateful day when she sighted him on after a tip-off and raised alarm before the crowd gathered around him.
An eye witness who was there at beginning of the incident told The Tide that the only thing that saved the accused bricklayer was that he cried out that he was innocent of the accusation.
The eye witness said the accused alleged that he travelled out for some time and did not count what was left of the blocks.
