The Guards Brigade of
the Nigerian Army on Wednesday in Abuja organised a training programme on Life After Retirement for its personnel.
Speaking at the Guards Brigade Finance Training Day in Abuja, the Chief of Army, Accounts and Budget, Brig.- Gen. Adeyemi Adetayo, said the training would go a long way in enhancing competence and knowledge for optimum performance.
Adetayo said the job of soldiering demanded absolute commitment, thereby leaving personnel with little or no time to be involved in personal businesses.
“Therefore, personnel find it difficult to be engaged in any personal business and it is imperative that there should be adequate training before retirement.
“It is only reasonable that the Nigerian Army Finance Corps takes the lead in educating troops of the Nigerian Army on post-retirement life,” he said.
In his opening remarks, the Commander, Guards Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Anthony Omozoje, said the training was one of the series of training activities to be carried out in implementing the Brigade’s training directive for 2015.
Omozoje said the training was to enlighten personnel on important aspects of their lives which hitherto had received less attention due to their discipline and commitment as military personnel.
He said the theme of the training: ” The Challenges of Nigerian Army Personnel Starting Business on Retirement: Role of Nigerian Army Finance Corps”, was carefully selected.
The guest lecturer, Mr Folami Fawehinmi, in his lecture entitled: “Business Success-Secret that Stands the Test of Time”, said everyone had the potential to engage in business, and that what was important was the mindset.
“Everything the personnel want to engage in after retirement is possible if they have a positive attitude toward that,” he said.
One of the participants, Lt.-Col. Edward Koleso, said the training came at the appropriate time as it would enable the officers plan before retirement.
