screen diva, Monalisa Chinda, was born on the 13th of September in Ikwerre, Rivers State. Her date of birth has been kept secret all the while even though her close friends believe she is in her late 30s or early 40s. She is the first born in a family of 4 daughters and 2 sons.
She had her primary education in Port Harcourt, Rivers State and also studied Theatre Arts at the prestigious University of Port Harcourt. She has successfully grounded herself into the Nollywood clan within the short period of time she came on board.
In the year 2011, Monalisa was crowned as “the face of Port Harcourt” carnival queen in Rivers State. Monalisa began her professional movie career in 1996 when she was featured in ‘Pregnant Virgin’, she also featured in the movie, ‘Above the Law’ shortly after she graduated from UNIPORT in the year 2000.
Monalisa Chinda is regarded as the ‘Rave of the Moment’ because she appears in almost every 2 out of 5 movies released in Nollywood. Before she began her movie career, she was reported to have fallen in love with stage plays. One of her stage plays was “Our Husband has Gone Mad Again”, by Ola Rotimi and “The Fight to stop Female Circumcision’, by the late Amatu Braid.
Some of the most prominent Nollywood movies she starred in include:
“Tight Corner’, ‘Lust to Lust’, “Total Control’, ‘Fragile Pain’, “The Golden Fish”, The golden Moon”, ‘Indecent Desire’ and ‘Inside Job’. (These were shot in 2005).
In 2006, Monalisa Chinda featured in movies such as “The Devil in Her’, spirit of Love”, On “My Wedding Day”, and ‘Rome’. Some of the most recent movies involving her are ‘Okon Lagos’and Kiss and Tell” which were shot and released in the year 2011. She has also starred in several movies in subsequent years.
The A-List actress has received several awards for super roles in movies which include: 2011 ZAFAA Awards for best actress in comedy series, and City Peoples Face of Nollywood Award 2011, among others.
Monalisa Chinda’s first marriage to Dejo Richards crashed. The two met and lived together in London before moving to Nigeria. It was after Monalisa started gaining popularity in Nollywood that they dropped the bombshell that they are no longer together.
The star actress accused her husband of over relying on her income and the fact that he is a wife beater who could not handle her fame as a Nollywood Icon. It was gathered that today, their only child, Tamar-Lily lives with her mother.
