65 Varsity Students Renounce Cult Membership
No fewer than 65
students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU), Awka, on Saturday renounced their membership of various cult groups operating in the institution.
The students took the decision during a special prayer session at the institution’s campus in Awka.
In his remarks at the occasion, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku, described the development as “spiritual irrigation” in the institution.
“I have spent 26 years in the university and the last time this spiritual cleansing was done was about 10 years ago.
“We have been receiving security reports of harassment by these cult groups.
“Local and conventional security experts suggested that occasions like this will provide opportunity for a new way of life for the affected students to repent and listen to testimonies of those who had passed through cultism and repented.
“This administration is rooted in total surveillance and guidance of God,” he said. Ahaneku, however, warned that the institution would not hesitate to punish recalcitrant cultists, adding that forms would be distributed to all students to re-affirm their commitment to the university’s rules.
According to him, decisions and actions will be taken according to the institution’s rules and regulations against anyone found to be a cult member after the prayer session.
“We will be giving other cult members one week grace for them to submit themselves to the institution’s management or face the wrath of the law,” Ahaneku said.
The vice chancellor, who maintained that the university would continue to train students in character and learning, advised the students to believe in themselves and God to succeed in life.
