We Won’t Interfere With Legislature -Wike
The Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike has sued for synergy amongst the states in the South-South region as a way of ensuring integrated development of the region.
Speaking while playing host to members of the Delta State House of Assembly, who were on retreat in the state, on Wednesday in Government House, Port Harcourt, Wike said all arms of government must work independently to have a balanced administration.
Wike, while commending the Assembly for holding their retreat in the state, said the synergy was necessary as that was one way to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people.
He used the visit to dispel the propaganda promoted by the opposition against his administration as mendacious, adding that the government was not bothered about any fear of its tenure, but was rather more concerned with delivering on its promise.
Wike said that: ”I can assure you that if you organize elections 20 times here in the state, PDP will win”, and therefore, urged the legislators to enjoy their stay in the state while wishing them a fruitful retreat.
Earlier, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Monday Ikpuya had congratulated the governor on his election victory, stating that the choice of Rivers State for its retreat was planked on the status of the state as the headquarters of the South-South.
Ikpuya said from their findings, Wike is the indisputable choice of the electorate, adding that the retreat will afford them opportunity to understudy the state’s legislative process and utilize it appropriately.
The same view was expressed by the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ikuinyi Ibani, who accompanied the Delta State lawmakers.
The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly emphasized that an interface was necessary between Houses of Assembly in the region, and further stressed that: “The retreat is a peer review mechanism, considering the catchment areas in the South-South.”
