Waste Management Agency Commissions Tricycles For Refuse Collection

The Rivers State Waste
Management Agency (RSWMA) has commissioned 31 Tricycles for house to house refuse collection in Port Harcourt City, and environs.
Sole Administrator of the Agency, Bro Felix Obuah, who performed the commissioning ceremony in the company of the Permanent Secretary, Rivers State Ministry of Environment, Dr Godwin Mpi and state Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) Oliver Wollugbom said that the gesture was in line with Governor Wike’s commitment towards returning Port Harcourt to its glorious past as the cleanest city in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, Bro Obuah says the previous administration must be blamed for the poor sanitation consciousness among the people of the state.
Addressing newsmen shortly after monitoring this months environmental sanitation exercise in parts of Port Harcourt, the Sole Administration said that the previous administration never sensitized the people on the importance of sanitation, adding that this was responsible for the large number of defaulters arrested during the exercise.
While thanking the people for turning out enmass for the exercise, he said that the present administration is poised to ensure that more awareness is created in the state on the importance of clean environment.
Bro. Obuah also commended Governor Ezenwo Nyesom Wike for his prompt intervention in ridding Port Harcourt of heap of refuse within days of inauguration and assured him of the agency’s support.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Dr. Godwin Mpi described the large turnout as evidence of the acceptance of Governor Wike’s administration.
Dr Mpi said that the ministry will continue to mobilise its environmental officers to carry out daily mobilisation exercise and to educate the people on the importance of sanitation.
Also speaking, the state Director of  National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr Oliver Wollugbon also described the turn out as impressive, stressing that this will help the state to regain its garden city status.
