WAFA Canvasses Promotion Of Female Football
The Women Amateur
Football Association (WAFA) yesterday appealed to governments and corporate bodies to support the body’s efforts in promoting female football.
Secretary of the association, Royals Olajide, told newsmen in Lagos that such support would help to provide a viable platform for female footballers to thrive.
He explained that the body which was initiated to discover buding talents at the grassroots had produced notable talents such as Assisat Oshoala, and Josephine Chukwunonye, through its various programmes.
“The main aim of WAFA is to ensure that female football continues to grow in Nigeria and we are working hard to achieve our goal.
“We can’t do this alone; we are appealing to governments and private organizations to identify with the body in any way they can assist.
“All we have achieved is through self-effort and contributions from members of WAFA and most often, these contributions are not enough”, he said.
On the ongoing third edition of the WAFA league, the scribe said that 12 teams were currently participating in the league which commenced on June 6.
Olajide said that the league had helped to engage budding talents at the grassroots since its inception.
He, however, urged aspiring players in the country to remain resolute in the pursuit of their careers.
