The Rivers State Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) in the United Kingdom has expressed delight over the successful swearing-in of Chief Nyesom Wike as governor of the state, saying, it shares the vision of the new governor to give Rivers people a new deal.
A medical practitioner and Coordinator of PDP, Rivers State community in the United Kingdom and Ireland, Dr Okechukwu Omodu, who made the remarks in an interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt, last Friday, said Wike’s pronouncements at the inauguration ceremony showed that he had a vision to eradicate poverty and create jobs for the people.
He commended the reopening of the courts in the state by the new governor, stressing that it was a reflection of his vision for the state.
He said Rivers people in London were determined to support the new governor to restore the Garden City status of Port Harcourt and to help him actualise his vision for the state.
Dr Omodu noted that the people were also ready to contribute their quota to uplift the state in whatever capacity, stressing that as a democratic society, Rivers State was supposed to forge ahead inspite of the adversities of the past but regretted that “we have been oppressed by the outgone government”.
He condemned the alleged seizure of government vehicles meant for the swearing-in of the new governor and described the act as shameful.
The PDP London-based coordinator, however, charged the new administration to give priority attention to the provision of basic amenities and creation of jobs for the youths.
He also stressed the need for the administration to ensure that the right people are put in the right positions by shunning favouritism and corruption.
