Rivers Medical Doctors Want Improved Healthcare

ers State have called on the present administration led by Barrister Nyeson Wike to make to make the health sector one of its focal points fro an overall improved  status of the state.
A cross section of medical experts who spoke to The Tide’s Health desk said the state’s health sector needs some improvement for the lots of not just the medical doctors but the  entire Rivers indigenes and residents.
While noting that health is wealth, the Rivers  medical  doctors said an investment in the State’s health sector would boost the overall economy of the state.
Commending the past Amaechi led administration over the heights of the sector, the medical practitioners maintained however, that the sector  needs to be repositioned for the state’s health sector  to compete favourable with international standard.
According to a surgeon incharge of one of the health centres in the state, “the past administration has done the sector a lot good  by building health centres in communities in the state and employment of medical doctors. But then, a lot still needs to be done. I expect that this government will  finetune the efforts of the past administration by equipping these health  centres  to standard as well as making them  accessible through good access roads.
An expert family Mediate at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital  said “my  problem with the past administration had been the incessant strike action by health workers. This acted as a set back on the state’s health sector. Obviously, doctors  can’t  work as Pharmalists, as medical  laboratory scientists and others. I wish that this  government will ensure that such does not take place for the smooth morning of activities in the state’s hospitals and health centres.
Another expert in gynecology stressed the need for training and retaining of medical doctors to meeting up with the evolving complex and challenging human system.
She further called on the present administration both at the state and federal level to inject reasonable fund into the system to boost the organisation of seminars, sensitisations and workshops for    medical personnels and the populace on  their views and approaches to health issues.
The medical practitioners further expressed hopes in the new administration for a better and improved health service delivery in the state.
