Rivers Cricket Association To Participate In Regional Championships
The Rivers State Cricket
Association has concluded arrangements to participate in the forthcoming Under-15 and 17 Junior Regional Cricket Championships Scheduled to hold next month in Abuja.
Chief Coach of the cricket team Tonye Timinadi, who disclosed this Wednesday in an interview with Tidesports in Port Harcourt said that the dates for the Under-15 competition are 25th and 26th July, while those for the U-17 category is fixed for 18th and 2nd August.
According to him, the Under-15 is for the boys while, the Under-17 is for the girls. He said that the junior teams were going through intensive preparations for the task ahead.
“The team is working hard to ensure that they are physically fit and adequately set for the competition when it finally gets underway,” he said.
Meanwhile, the annual cricket championship tagged T.20 is expected to hold in August, due to the rainy season which does not favour the sport.
Also, the Senior National Cricket Competition will come up towards the end of the year. The championship is open for all cricket teams across the federation.
Coach Timinadi, therefore advised the athletes to be prepared for the challenges ahead, saying that, they (players) should take their training more seriously, be focused and disciplined at all times in order to compete favourably.
