Rivers Angels Get Set For NWPL Resumption
The Rivers Angels
Football Club of Port Harcourt has began preparation ahead the resumption of the 2015 National Women Premier league (NWPL), which is expected to reopen on 4th July.
Assistant Coach of the team Whyte ogbondah, who made this known in an interview with Tidesports in Port Harcourt this week said that the team resumed training early, to adequately prepare for the league which reopens in less than two weeks.
According to him, the league was suspended due to the on-going 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada and since Nigeria exited the competition early, the league would resume earlier than expected.
“Most of the players who represented the country at the world cup, were key players in some of the clubs across the Federation and due to their absence, the NWPL Board directed that the league be suspended till the competition (World Cup) is over”, Ogbondah said.
Rivers Angels are expected to tango with Taraba Queens in a week four tie of the league which comes up in two weeks time.
Coach Ogbondah has promised to leave no stone unturned as they target to successfully defend the trophines they won last season. It would be recalled that the Angels are leading the league table in the 9 points from three matches played before the break.
