Rights Applicant Sues IGP, Others For N100m

applicant to the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt, Hon Prince Stephen Lemachi is claiming N100 million damages for the unlawful invasion of his premises and the breach of his fundamental rights.
Hon Lemachi, who is seeking the relief against the police and other respondents, asked the police from the Special Anti-Robbery Squad Abuja, to refund his N300,000 which they allegedly took from his Toyota Camry car at his residence in Omachi Estate, Rumuodumaya, Port Harcourt.
Hon Lemachi, who stated this while speaking with newsmen in Port Harcourt, at the weekend, explained that his premises was invaded by officers and men from SARS Abuja.
Lemachi, a Port Harcourt- based businessman, said Elder Godwin Egonu, a respondent in his fundamental right enforcement suit had invited SARs over a land dispute he had with him.
He said Supol Bala Jonah, Supol Wakama, three others from the same division and Inspector Iwu from the Special Area Division, Port Harcourt, involved in the assault.
He alleged that the named officers and others took his N300,000, his original car key with rubber head, one Nokia C3 handset with glo line.
He alleged that the screen of his LG phone was destroyed.
According to him, They shot tear –gas in my house and my four- months- old -baby and my other kids were hospitalized for about three days.
He said they also used their gun to break the right side of his ankle, and noted that the shots fired in the air caused panic in the street as people ran to safety. Hon Lemachi remarked that in spite of the fact that the matter has been field at the Federal High, Court, Port Harcourt, the police from SAS, Abuja, had continued to threaten he life.
He explained though that the police had been served the processes, they had continued to molest him.
