The Nigerian Police and
the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Bwari, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have urged traditional rulers to always partner with them to address insecurity.
The two agencies gave this advice in separate remarks at the turbaning of three district heads and one village head in Bwari, FCT.
The Divisional Police Officer of Bwari, Mr Danladi Isa, said although all authority was from God, key players of the community leadership ought to work together in tackling insecurity.
According to him, how we use the position of leadership that God has given to us to ensure protection of life and property of the citizens requires collaborative efforts to yield results.
Danladi said, “security is the whole essence of leadership, which we are enforcing as enshrined in the holy books, the Qur’an and the Bible.
“God, who has given us the authority to lead others, also requires that we must give account of our leadership; it is necessary that we should be law abiding as traditional leaders.
“Community laws are easy to obey; it is only when people failed to obey them that the security operatives come in to intervene.
“Traditional rulers must, therefore, know their limits and not take over the duties of security operatives, rather, they should partner with us to achieve the target goals.
“Security is the business of all of us; we cannot render adequate security services or policing without useful information from the host community leaders.
“We should all join hands to stem the fight against crime to ensure that peace reigns in our communities.’’
He, however, advised the participants to be law abiding and uphold the tenets of their traditional values in order to promote community development.
Also, Commandant of NSCDC, Mr John Oferi, urged the new community leaders to always report suspicious movements in their domains to security operatives in order to reduce crimes.
According to him, you must work closely with security operatives within your domains so as to guard against crimes before and after they occur.
Oferi advised the participants to always call emergency security numbers given to them to report suspected individuals to avert security breaches.
