Civil servants in Plateau
State have resumed work after the suspension of their four-week-old strike action over unpaid salaries and allowances.
The Tide source reports that the workers had been on strike since May 5 due to non-payment of salaries, gratuities, pensions, leave grant and promotions among others.
Jibrin Bancir, the state NLC Chairman, said the workers agreed to resume work after the new administration in the state agreed to pay two months of their outstanding salaries.
He said that the NLC and  the state government had also agreed to reopen negotiations on all outstanding issues within seven days of the suspension of the strike.
A reporter who visited the Joseph Gomwalk State Secretariat, said activities had  resumed with some of the workers seen in groups discussing the development.
Other state agencies such as the Plateau State Board of Revenue and the State Water Board were also openned for work.
The strike action had left mountain of refuse on major streets of Jos, the state capital, including the city’s business hub accommodating majority of banks and shopping centers.
Mr Sanni Abayomi, a shop owner, appealed to the State’s Ministry of Environment to intervene urgently in view of the health hazards involved.
