Lagos Wins U-12 Baseball, Softball Tourney In Port Harcourt

Lagos State yesterday
emerged winner of the under 12 National Baseball and Softball tournament, held at the Isaac Boro Park, Port Harcourt.
The tournament was organised by the Rivers State Baseball and Softball association.
The four-day competition which featured eight states, Bayelsa, Delta, Kwara, Oyo, Rivers, Lagos, Akwa-Ibom and Ondo, witnessed large spectators.
Speaking at the event, the Manger of GCA Energy Limited, the major sponsor of the tournament, Layo Oladimiyi, expressed joy over the successful end of the competition, saying that the event would be an annual thing.
“I was really elated when I saw young boys and girls of such young age playing baseball and softball.
‘As I speak, the company is making sure that they sponsor Baseball and Softball tournament every year in the state”, Oladimiyi said.
The General Manager, appealed to other Corporate bodies to join hands with GCA Energy Limited to promote and develop the game, so that it will be popular in Nigeria.
“If other companies join hands to sponsor baseball and softball, in the next two years the sport will be more popular”, he stated.
He promised that talents discovered in the competition will be adequately groomed to become future stars.
“We will not leave these talents just like that, we have plans to bring foreign trainers and expose them to international competitions”, he added.
Also speaking, the team manager of Lagos Baseball and Softball Olabiyi Taiwo, said that it was not easy to form his team, but through commitment and determination he was able to achieve the feat.
