Lack Of Activities Worries Rivers Athletes, Officials
Coaches and athletes of
the Rivers State Sports Council have described the absence of sporting activities in the state as a bad Omen.
Trainings and competitions are expected to build and improve athletes on their various sports but the absence of these activities may affect the fortunes of the state if urgent measures are not taken to correct the situation.
According to the Head of Coaching Department, Evangelist Ezekiel Ordu, the State’s Sports Council is waiting for the new government to settle down first, before the needed changes could be affected.
We are waiting on the government to stabilize so that things could go into their proper shapes, for now, all is pending, nothing is happening in the sports complex”, he said.
Earlier, one of the wrestling coaches Mike Oyekachi, had attributed the current development to the non-payment of salaries to workers in the state.
He said that the situation has put most things on stand still, saying that, this has affected normal training sessions and competitions in the state.
“before now, some coaches often sponsor their teams to competitions in and outside the state and do not toy with their trainings but, there is no fund to achieve all these at the moment that is why things are now looking awakward”, he said.
