Jocarls Presents N35m Cheque To Egbeda As Compensation
Jocarls Investment Ltd,
an agro-based in Egbeda, Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State, has paid the sum of thirty-five million naira (N35,000,000) as compensation for economic trees and crops damaged when the company started production more than five years ago.
A spokesman for the community, Franklyn Isiah, who stated this while speaking with The Tide in Port Harcourt, at the weekend, noted that the company and the community were drawn into dispute over the failure of the firm to properly purchase the community lands.
Isiah said the disagreement between the company and community lasted for more than one year and expressed happiness that the problem was over.
He said the company presented a cheque of thirty five million naira (N35,000,000) to the community on Friday night.
According to him, the settlement between the company and its host will give room for development as the company will now freely operate without hinderance.
Comrade Isiah remarked that the company was on the verge of perfecting a memorandum of understanding with the community.
He said the money would alleviate the suffering of land owners.
