IGSDA Boss Slams Grassroots Coaches
The President of Indepen
dent Grassroots Sports Development Association, IGSDA, Prince Miebi Ogunu has come down hard on some coaches at the grassroots level who he described as lacking in imagination, creativity, innovation and resourcefulness.
Speaking in Eleme over the weekend while addressing coaches of Eleme chapter of the technical committee of IGSDA, Prince Ogunu said that the office of every grassroots coach should be in the field where they should be creating one programme or the other aimed at identifying and harnessing raw talents. But sadly, according to him, most coaches, due to laziness and lack of vision abandon their primary assignment only to chase shadows.
He said that for the IGSDA to take over the grassroots sports development space in Nigeria, coaches of the association must be innovative, creative and business-minded in discovering athletes in every community of Rivers State.
Ogunu charged members to be serious with their primary assignments, which includes creation of programme and events for the youth and stated that the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, National Sports Commission, NSC, the Sports Councils and various sports associations were waiting for the manifestation of the objectives of IGSDA and urged the coaches to be alive to their responsibilities.
