Unknown gunmen last night abducted the Vice Chancellor of the Rivers State Government-owned Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumuolumeni, near Port Harcourt, the state capital, Prof Rosemund Green-Osahogulu.
Authoritative sources told The Tide last night that the vice chancellor was allegedly kidnapped around Aker Road axis of Rumuolumeni in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state while she was on her way to Port Harcourt from the school.
The Tide learnt that the gunmen had trailed the vice chancellor from the institution, and overtook her vehicle before ordering her out after some sporadic gunshots, apparently designed to scare away any sympathisers, who may attempt to rescue her.
The Tide further gathered that the gunmen had overpowered the security details attached to the vice chancellor and her driver before whisking away the soft-spoken mother and academic scholar to an unknown destination.
As at the time of filing this report, Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmad Muhammad was yet to confirm knowledge of the kidnap of the vice chancellor, and what the police were doing to rescue the vice chancellor, unhurt.
Muhammad neither responded to calls put across to his mobile phone nor replied to SMS sent to his phone.
There was also no information as to whether the kidnappers have made any contact with the family of the victim or the school authorities.
