El-Rufai Launches Fertiliser Sale In Kaduna

Governor Nasiru El-Rufai of
Kaduna State has launched the sale and distribution of 30,215 tonnes of fertiliser to farmers in the state for 2015 cropping season.
Launching the programme in Kaduna, El-Rufai said that agriculture remained the viable option of diversifying the economy and for creating jobs for the youth of the state.
“ The government purchased 30, 215 tonnes of different brands of fertiliser to cushion the attendant effect of shortages in the product.“
He said that the fertiliser would be sold at subsidised rate to farmers at N 3, 500 for NPK, Urea at N2, 400 and SSP, at N 2, 940.
El-Rufai said the subsidy was in collaboration with the 23 local government areas of the state to ensure that the product gets to the farmers for the 2015 cropping season.
He called on farmers not to purchase the fertiliser more than the official price from anyone.
The governor assured them that “if the fertiliser is exhausted, more will be purchased for farmers not to face shortages of the product,“ he said.
Malam Sani Aliyu, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, said that the ministry had provided farmers with 16,000 improved palm oil seedlings, at subsidised rate to farmers.
He added that 186 tractors had been purchased to boost agricultural mechanization in the state.
Aliyu said that the government had equipped and rehabilitated Kafanchan fish farm.
Aminu Shagali, the Speaker, Kaduna State House of Assembly, in his goodwill message said he would make sure that the state agriculture programmes succeed through good legislation.
