Driver, Conductor Docked Over Assaulting Policeman, LASTMA Officials

driver, Taofeek Bodude and his conductor, Shola Dimeji, were on Friday charged for assaulting a policeman and two officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
Bodude, 40, and Dimeji, 35, were charged before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court sitting at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
Bodude of 3, Adekunle St, Agege and Dimeji of 1, Olusanya St, Agege, Lagos, are facing a five-count charge of conspiracy to commit serious assault, malicious damage as well as resisting arrest.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Ukpong Essien, said they committed the offences on June 17 at about 9.00 am on the Agege Motor Road, by Conoil Filing Station, Ikeja, Lagos.
Essien said the accused persons were apprehended by the LASTMA officers, one DSL Lanre and Mrs Surakat Afolabi and a policeman, Insp. Adewunmi Ilesanmi, for traffic offences.
According to the prosecutor, Bodude and Dimeji resisted arrest, beat up the officers and tore their uniforms.
He said the accused also damaged a police patrol van marked KRD171CB.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 117, 171 (b), 384 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr K.O. Ogundare, granted each of them N100,000 bail, with two sureties in the like sum.
Ogundare adjourned the case to August10 for mention.
