The captain of Dol
phins Football Club of Port Harcourt, Festus Austin, has appealed to the Rivers State Government led by Barrister Nyesom Wike to work out modalities on how to pay players promptly.
He said that the idea of paying players through over head is not a good policy, as it delays salaries and allowances of players.
Austin stated these in an exclusive interview with Tidesports over the weekend in Port Harcourt, saying that this has caused the non-payment  of salaries and allowances were the overhead has not been paid to various ministries and parastals, including the sports ministry.
According to him, players of his team is now facing untold hardship following the eight months salaries owed players.
“I just believed that the present government will adjust what is happening now, because I don’t like the idea of paying players through overhead allowance, that is not good.
Government should please look for other means to pay players promptly,  Austin said.
He explained that the situation is affecting the performance of the team negatively,  most times players are very reluctant to play matches because there is nothing to motivate them.
“Some times we just force ourselves to play a particular game,  you can imagine a situation where players borrow money with 40 per cent interest to take care of their families and themselves.
The worst is that the new players signedby the team have not received any kobo since they were enagaged, he said.
