Captain of Dolphins
Basketball Club of Lagos, Bintu Badmus, has called on the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) to organise regular refresher courses for technical officials to improve their handling of matches.
Badmus, who made the call recently in an interview with newsmen in Ilorin, observed that some of the officials still lacked the technical dept required to officiate at a high level.
She said that the Zenith Female Basketball League was the highest level of female basketball competition in the country that required the highest level of ‘know-how’ to officiate.
Badmus also called for more competitions for them to further sharpen their skills.
She decried the poor state of the Indoor Sports Hall of the Kwara Stadium, where the competition was held and urged the organisers to look elsewhere for a better venue for subsequent editions.
“The court here is smelly, with poor ventilation and bounce balls poorly. We have 36 states in the country, where improved facilities can be found to grow the game better,” Badmus said.
She said most of the teams stepped up their games compared to the first phase staged in Abuja.
One of the technical officials Olayinka Famugbiyele, countered the suggestion for refresher courses, saying the views were erroneous.
“We have a number of experienced technical officials at the tournament that were strictly supervised’’.
