Body Urges Tax Holiday For Building Materials Firms
The Association of
Town Planning Consultants of Nigeria (ATOPCON) has urged government to look into the rising cost of building materials, and as well grant tax holiday to firms dealing on building materials production.
Executive Secretary of ATOPCON, Mr Ayo Adejumo, who disclosed this to Journalists in Abuja, said that Nigerians would continue to pay more for accommodation in major cities until the cost of building materials was subsidized through tax holiday.
He said that it has become very imperative for government to provide tax relief for Local manufactuers and importers of building materials in order to reduce the high cost of rent grant tax holiday to the producers of building materials, it will go a long way to reducing the cost of building houses in the country.
Adejumo also urged government to provide enabling environment for the private estate developers to strive by providing them with proper incentives, credits and mortgagees.
He also attributed the instability in the price of building materials as being responsible for the high cost of accommodation in the country.
The ATOPCON scribe, however remarked that one other major issue in high cost of accommodation in some major cities in the country was due to lack of effective legislation.
According to him, if there is an effective legislation in place that will guide activities in the housing sector, thugs will be properly checked.
