The Acting Chief Judge of
Rivers State, Justice Daisy W. Okocha has pledged to build a robust judiciary  governed by ethics of the legal profession in the state.
Justice Okocha stated this while addressing members of the legal profession at a brief special court session held at the State Judiciary                               auditorium to mark her swearing-in as the acting Chief Judge of the state last Monday in Port Harcourt.
She stated that any form of corruption in the system would be met with severe sanction, adding that indolence and absenteeism would also not be condoned.
The acting  CJ said that she would undertake on the spot find-out missiong in the judiciary as part of the efforts to ascertain areas of urgent attention, pointing out that the judiciary was undergoing a rebuilding process at the moment.
“It is a time to rebuild our judiciary; we ought to have a sober reflection of our past to know where we got it wrong in order to move forward”, she said.
According to her, people erroneously misplaced her identity and character, saying that “I am a choice character because I keep to my words. I like things to be done very well and orderly. I hail from a police family where things are done properly.”
“Those who see me from far think that I’m harsh but those who come closer to me know that I have a humane heart”, she added.
Justice Okocha told the over 1000 lawyers that a new dawn has come in the state judiciary, and urged members of the legal profession to forget the past and forge ahead for the betterment of the judiciary in the state.
She also advised the people to be patient and trust God in whatever situation they find themselves, adding that such habit has brought the grace of God in her life.
The acting Rivers CJ while promising to run an open door administration with a view to carrying everybody along, she called on members of the bar, bench and judiciary to work as a family towards achieving set goals.
She, however, thanked the state governor for the opportunity given her to serve and assured that she would not renege on her responsibilities to the state and the judiciary at large.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice and Solicitor-General of the state, Rufus Godwin thanked God for resumption of judiciary activities in the state
