Time To Restore Rivers Lost Glory, Now – Wike

About nine days to the
swearing-in of new government in Rivers State, governor-elect of the state, Chief Nyesom Wike, says time has come to bring back the lost glory of the state.
Wike said though Rivers State may have every reason to celebrate at its 48 years since creation, the state has not fared good enough in giving quality governance to the people.
Speaking at a plenary session on the new vision of Rivers State at the just concluded 2015 Synod of the Diocese of Niger Delta North, the governor-elect was emphatic that ‘our last days are still behind us’
He gave three examples why the state has lost its glory especially in the areas of pipe-borne water, the state of public schools and the high level of insecurity in the state.
According to him, Rivers State at creation had pipe-borne water running in many houses of the city but regretted that things are no longer the same 48 years after creation, leaving residents of Port Harcourt City to meet their water needs through bore-hole system.
He also expressed worry with the poor state of public schools in the state saying that the situation has greatly affected the educational standard of the people.
On insecurity, the governor-elect who described Rivers State as most peaceful state in Nigeria, noted that the state is in a deep crisis resulting from the high spate of armed robbery and criminality which have since driven investors away from the state.
The governor-elect said his new vision for the state is predicated on the idea that all things are possible to turn the socio-economic and political fortunes of the state around.
He pledges the commitment of the new government under his leadership to secure the state improved health care, re-invent civil service in the state, make strategic investment in creating wealth and provide first class road network.
While assuring the commitment of the new government to fulfill its campaign promises, he said however, that it will not be business as usual.
He also appreciated the stormy political journey but added that they were designed to prepare him for greater responsibility to the people.
He renewed his call to Rivers people to remain supportive in putting the state back on the path of unity, peace and progress.
