PDP Appears At Rivers Judicial Panel …Demands Suspension Of Hearing
Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) showed-up at the venue of the public hearing organized by a panel investigating recent politically motivated killings in Rivers State, demanding an immediate suspension of the hearing.
The PDP members, led by the party’s lawyer, Chuma Aguma, appeared before the Commission of Inquiry with an interim court order seeking to stop them from sitting pending the decision of the court on the matter.
Aguma argued that the commission should obey the rule of law and stop sitting since he had served them the certified true copy of the court injunction.
“What I try to remind the commission is that we are a country governed by the rule of law. The problem I have is not whether the matter goes on today or not. The problem is that how do I participate in a proceeding which I am questioning its legality,” Aguma said.
Chairman of the commission, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu and other members of the commission resolved to take arguments from all sides today.
Odinkalu also said that the commission will make its position on the matter known on the adjourned date.
The commission continued the public hearing despite being served an interim court order by the PDP.
It could be recalled that the PDP had dragged the Commission and Governor Chibuke Amaechi to court to challenge the legality of the commission.
