Following the recent
fire incident that destroyed property in Nbodo Community of Aluu in Ikwerre local government area of Rivers State, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has presented relief materials to the victims of the incident.
The NEMA South-South Zonal Coordinator, Mr Benjamin Oghenah, who presented the materials through the Rivers State Ministry of Special Duties in Port Harcourt, on Thursday, said the presentation of the materials was to complement state government’s effort in alleviating the suffering of the community after their houses were destroyed by fire.
He urged the community leaders to ensure equitable distribution of the items to the victims.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Duties, Mrs Ibaniba Briggs-Iti, who handed over the materials to the community leaders, urged them not to sell the items, but distribute them equally to the victims.
She called on the community members to move on with life and get back on their feet to make up for their losses.
In his speech, a youth leader in the community, Mr Okachi Ordu, commended NEMA and pledged to distribute the materials evenly to the victims.
Some of the items presented to the victims include bundles of roofing sheets, mattresses, cartons of noodles, detergents, wrappers, beverages and rice, among others.
