IGSDA To Float Rivers Youth Football League
The technical committee of
Independent Grassroots Sports Development Association (IGSDA) has concluded plans to introduce a grassroots football league among the youth of Rivers State to be known as Rivers League.
According to the founder/president of IGSDA, Prince Miebi Ogunu, the competition would be among the Youth Football Clubs in the state and would take care of the absence of viable youth competition which has been lacking in the state for a long time.
Ogunu, who was speaking to newsmen in Port Harcourt yesterday, said that the league would be organsied on senatorial district basis in order to save the clubs the cost of transversing the state and allow communities within the districts to derive recreational benefits from the football fiesta the league would create.
He also said that the competition would bring football league closer to the people and revolve grassroots sports activities around communities.
The seasoned grassroots sports administrator appealed to well-meaning individuals in the state and corporate organizations to identify with the league, assuring that the NGO, IGSDA would deliver quality and value through the league.
In another development, Prince Ogunu disclosed that the IGSDA would be organizing a walking/jogging exercise in Port Harcourt romorrow.
The theme of the exercise, which is aimed at keeping members of the association in good health, according to him is, ‘walking into healty life.’
The exercise which would start from waterlines junction, Port Harcourt by 7.00am and terminate at Okomoko Street, D/Line would see Prince Ogunu lead a cream of athletes, coaches, seasoned journalists and members of the association sweat through the distance.
Some of the dignitaries expected for the exercise include Barr Inibie Awokeigha, Samson Abiola, Clinton Thompson, Uroh Kiani, Ralph Akunna, Ephraim Omu and Rivers senatorial coordinators of the association, among others.
