Foundation Partners Corps On Drivers Licence In Rivers

A non-governmental
organisation (NGO), Cleen Foundation has partnered with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Rivers State Command, to sensitise the motoring public on the procedure for obtaining the new drivers’ licence, its application and renewal processes in the state.
Speaking at a public enlightenment campaign hold at Mile 3 Motor Park, Diobu, Port Harcourt on Thursday, the Programme Officer of the Foundation; Mr Ifeanyi Anyanwu said they decided to partner FRSC in order to promote public safety and security of lives of motorists.
Anyanwu noted that as a centre for law education, they are to demonstrate the implications and benefits of obtaining, processing and renewal of the new drivers licence in order to avoid any friction with the relevant authorities on the road, and reitearated that the organisation would continue to enlighten the public as it had done in other parts of the country.
He commended the FRSC for introducing a digital driver’s licence that is acceptable in all parts of Nigeria, and enjoined all drivers to ensure total compliance in order to save lives and reduce road crashes in the country.
In his own speech, the Zonal Commanding Officer, Zone RS6, Port Harcourt, Dr Aliyu Gummi lauded the collaborative effort of Cleen Foundation and called on other stakeholders to emulate them.
Gunmi, who highlighted the origin of drivers vehicle licence prior to 1990 to the current enhanced Nigeria Drivers Licence of March 1, 2011, however hinted that the vision of FRSC is to reduce road traffic crashes and create safe motoring environment in Nigeria as they are the lead agency in road traffic management and safety.
Also speaking, the Deputy Chairman of Mile 3 Motor Park, Glory Nnokam thanked the organisers of the campaign for choosing their park to kick-start the programme in the state, and that the drivers and that stakeholders present would pass-on the information to others.
In a vote of thanks, the FRSC Unit Commander, Isiokpo Command, Mr Amaechi advised drivers to always ensure they obtain the genuine drivers Licence as all those with fake licences would be arrested and prosecuted, and also thanked the organisers of the programme for it would enable all drivers to do the right thing at the right time.
