About 50 graduates have began a one-week entrepreneurship training under the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in Bayelsa.

Our correspondent reports that the training is part of the state’s NDE efforts to boost small business enterprises and reduce unemployment.

The week long programme will end on May 25.

Mr Abubaka Mohammed, NDE Director General, said at the opening of the programme in Yenagoa, that the training targeted unemployed graduates who were interested in becoming self-reliant through entrepreneurship.

Mohammed, who was represented by Bayelsa NDE Co-ordinator, Mr David Apakasa, said the programme, entitled “NDE-Enterprise and Finance Counselling Clinic”, is on-going in the eight states of the federation.

According to him, “this is the second phase of the training and the exercise is on-going in Ebonyi, Ogun, Benue, Plateau, Adamawa, Sokoto, Bayelsa states among others.

“The first phase was conducted in April 2015 in Anambra, Delta, Enugu, Kano, Kastina, Kogi, Ondo and Taraba states.

“The programme is also to guide the graduates in the choice of their business ideas and gives a solid business management training that will instill self-confidence in managing their chosen business venture.

“I urge all participants to take advantage of the programme and support the Federal Government’s effort in ensuring that jobs are created”.

Mrs Henrietta Ifesemen, NDE Deputy Director of Small Scale Enterprises Department, urged the participants to consider the training as a refresher course and opportunity to add to their knowledge.

“I want you to be willing to learn something new that will guide you in managing your choice of business enterprise; make sure that you are present at all lectures,” Ifesemen said.

Mr Okotobei Kenneth, one of the participants, said that the training was a welcome development, adding that he was ready to benefit from the programme.
