Benue To Host Darts National Championship
The Secretary-General of
the Nigeria Darts Federation, Ademola Okeyedun, last Monday in Abuja said Makurdi in Benue State would host the 2015 Darts National Championships in October.
Okeyedun told newsmen that the annual competition would hold from October 24 to October 27 at the Makurdi Club.
He however highlighted the challenges of developing the sport in the country, saying it was rather unfortunate that there was limited funding for the game.
In January 2015, the Federation could not participate in the International Championships in The Netherlands due to poor funding.
The Federation Secretary-General said their President, Abubakar Haruna, has been the only one sponsoring the Federation in all their events.
“He has been looking for sponsors, non-government organisations and philanthropists who can help us with equipment and other materials for this tournament.
“We however hope the new Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Alhassan Yakmut, will show interest and also come to our aid.
“We nonetheless want the Federation’s board members to support us with the little they can to make this year’s event come to reality and be successful,’’ he said.
Okeyedun said this year’s tournament was going to be interesting with the unveiling of the new logo of the Federation.
“We are going to unveil the new logo of the Federation, which will serve as a means of getting additional players from the grassroots to participate in darts.
“We also want to appreciate our President with the new logo, for his interest and commitment to our entire events in the Federation,’’ he said.
It will be recalled that the last edition of the national championships was held in 2014 from July 16 to July 19 in Ilesa, Osun.
