APC Alleges Plans To Kill Leaders In Rivers …PDP Say’s Allegation, Baseless
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has rained fresh alarm over alleged plot to assassinate more members of the party in the state.
In a statement, the party chairman, Dr Davies Ibiama Ikanya yesterday alleged that credible intelligence just received by the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State has confirmed that the leadership of the state chapter of the PDP has decided to commence targeted assassination of members of the APC in Rivers State.
The report confirmed that the decision to resort to yet another round of killing of APC members in Rivers State was reached following what the PDP consider the high possibility of not having Barr. Nyesom Wike sworn in as governor of Rivers State on May 29, 2015.
The dastardly plot is also reported to stem from the anger of PDP members over what they consider as frustration of the handover process by the incumbent governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
Yet another reason reportedly responsible for the plot by the PDP is the decision by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, to conduct local government council elections on 23rd May, 2015.
The APC drew the attention of the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, State Director of Department of State Security [DSS], Inspector General of Police and heads of all security agencies to the alleged plot and called on them to urgently intervene to not only prevent these planned killings but to apprehend all those behind the plot and prosecute them according to the laws of the land.
The party also called on the National Human Rights Commission, United Nations Secretary-General, the embassies and high commissions of countries of the European Union, United States and all other friendly countries, to hold the leadership and members of the PDP in Rivers State responsible for any killings of APC members in the state henceforth.
The APC is still counting its losses in terms of human lives and properties inflicted on it by desperate members of the PDP before, during and after the last general elections with detailed and documented pieces of evidence. Surely, the party cannot afford to be visited with further mayhem by the PDP any longer, he stated
As a party that has a lot of respect for the rule of law, we are already seeking redress for the shameless and criminal highjack of the peoples’ mandate through legally laid down channels. We have never given a thought to resorting to self help.
The APC urge genuine elders and leaders-of-thought across the land to prevail on the PDP to always subject its members to the laws of the land rather than taking the laws into their hands.
But in a swift reaction, the Rivers State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), yesterday described the allegations by the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state that her members are marked for assassination as baseless and laughable, and advised APC to look ahead and maintain peace in the state.
The coordinator of the Nyesom Wike New Vision Campaign Organization, Mr Emma Okah, who was reacting to the allegation in a telephone interview with The Tide, advised the APC to remain silent, if they have nothing meaningful to do or say.
According to him, “ If their allegations are genuine, they should report to the appropriate quarters and allow the authorities concerned to investigate the issue rather than wake up each morning and start accusing people unnecessarily’’.
Okah said the APC was putting up this allegation because the present government has refused to set up a transition committee, which the governor-elect has done for a smooth and peaceful transition in the state.
He, however, advised the APC to seek for peace and the development of the state instead of creating problems, adding that such allegation was baseless and unfounded.
